Cricket Revival for Minal
Good news for village cricket lovers as last week a select Minal XI revived memories of former glory when they took the field against a strong Ramsbury Leg Rovers team.
The Minal field provided a splendid ambience in the late summer evening, with golden skies and a spectacular rainbow 🌈 over the Kennet valley providing a perfect backdrop to the canvas. The Rovers set a challenging target of 119 runs despite valiant efforts from Minal captain Stu Barnett and his bowlers comprising Steve, Richard and Greg Cook, Chris Hurd, Simon Neal and Kevin May to name a few.
Minal replied with a spirited 92 runs bolstered by excellent batting from Simon Neal, Kevin May and Stu Barnett when the allotted overs were completed in the gathering gloom. The Minal hosts provided delicious burgers and sausage rolls off the BBQ whilst the Rovers responded with cold beer from the back of a car, to hungry and thirsty players and supporters alike.
Another most enjoyable sporting event played in great spirit with good humour all round. The Rovers and particularly their captain Andrew Stibbard were very complementary about the Minal venue and said how much they have enjoyed playing there all season.
